Create a list, add contacts, invite people, or join a list someone shared with you.

Getting started

Create your first shared list

Create your own list with the one-time Shared List Creator purchase, or restore a previous purchase.

CNTC requires the Shared List Creator purchase before you create your own lists. It is a one-time App Store purchase—not a subscription—and unlocks unlimited list creation. Joining, viewing, and editing a list shared with you is always free.

Create a list

  1. Open Lists and tap the plus button.
  2. If list creation is locked, review Shared List Creator and complete the purchase.
  3. Enter a list name that participants will recognize.
  4. Tap Save. CNTC opens the new, empty list.
  5. Tap the plus button in the list to add contacts.

Restore or manage a purchase

Open Settings → Shared List Creator. From there you can restore a previous purchase made with the same Apple Account or ask Apple to review an eligible refund request.

If the App Store cannot load the product, confirm that the device is online and try again. Purchases may also be unavailable when in-app purchases are restricted on the device.

Getting started

Add contacts and manage Contacts access

Choose people from Apple Contacts and control which contacts CNTC can access.

Open a list and tap Add Contacts (the plus button). You can also touch and hold a list on the Lists screen and choose Add Contacts.

  1. Select people from the Apple Contacts entries available to CNTC.
  2. Tap Review.
  3. Review the shared fields for each selected contact.
  4. Tap Add.

CNTC does not add the same Apple Contact to a list twice, so contacts already connected to that list do not appear as available choices.

Contacts access

iOS may let you give CNTC access to all contacts or only contacts you select.

  • With limited access, choose Add More from Apple Contacts in the picker when you need another person.
  • Open Settings → Contacts Access to review or change CNTC’s access.
  • If access is denied, choose Open Settings when CNTC prompts you, then allow access before trying again.

CNTC asks for Contacts access so it can read the people you choose, keep their selected fields current, find possible import matches, and write contacts only when you request an import.

Sharing and access

Choose how people can join your list

Compare Invite Only, personal invitations, Approval Links, and Anyone with Link.

Open the list and tap Manage Sharing in the bottom toolbar, then choose its Access Mode. You can also touch and hold the list on the Lists screen and choose Manage Sharing.

Invite Only

Use Invite Only when you want to decide who receives access.

  • Invite Someone creates a personal invitation with Can Edit or View Only access.
  • Approval Link lets anyone with the link request access. The owner chooses whether to approve each request as Can Edit or View Only.
  • Turning off the Approval Link stops new requests. Pending requests can also be removed.

Anyone with Link

Use Anyone with Link when it is acceptable for recipients to forward the link. Choose one permission for everyone joining through that link:

  • Can Edit participants can add and change shared contacts.
  • View Only participants can view and import shared information but cannot change the list.

Changing access mode is a significant operation. Switching to Anyone with Link removes current participants, pending invitations, and access requests. Switching to Invite Only removes access granted through the public link. CNTC shows the exact impact before making the change; the list and contacts themselves remain unchanged.

Sharing and access

Join a list from a link or QR code

Join directly through an invitation or public link, or request approval from the owner.

Open a CNTC link on a compatible Apple device, or tap Scan Invitation in CNTC and scan its QR code.

  • A personal invitation opens Apple’s sharing flow and grants the permission chosen by the owner.
  • An Anyone with Link invitation lets you join with the public link’s current permission.
  • An Approval Link shows Request Access. If the owner approves you, the list should appear automatically. Reopen the link if it does not.

When Apple asks, continue with the Apple Account you use for iCloud and allow CNTC to download the shared list. Joining, viewing, and editing a shared list never requires the Shared List Creator purchase.

If joining fails, confirm that the device is online, iCloud Drive is available, and you are signed in to the expected Apple Account. The owner may also need to replace a cancelled, disabled, or expired invitation.

Getting started
Choose which contact fields are shared

Review each contact and include only the details you want participants to receive.

CNTC treats sharing as a per-contact, per-field choice.

When adding contacts, tap Review after making your selection. Open each contact to confirm its shared fields before tapping Add.

To change an existing shared contact:

  1. Open the contact from its list.
  2. Tap the More button and choose Shared Fields. You can also touch and hold the contact in the list and choose Shared Fields.
  3. Turn individual details on or off.
  4. Return to the contact when finished; changes synchronize through iCloud.

A name is always included so the entry is understandable. Review fields such as photos, dates, addresses, relationships, and online profiles before enabling them.

CNTC does not request permission to access Contact Notes. The app cannot read them or include them in a shared list; Shared Fields shows Contact Notes as unavailable so you know they remain private.

Owners can change the shared fields for any contact in their list. A participant with Can Edit access can change fields only for contacts they added. A View Only participant cannot change shared fields.

Sharing and access
Share a link or show its QR code

Send, copy, display, or scan personal invitations, Approval Links, and public links.

Open a list and tap Manage Sharing in the bottom toolbar. You can also touch and hold the list on the Lists screen and choose Manage Sharing. Link actions depend on the current access mode.

Invite Only

  • Tap Invite Someone, choose Can Edit or View Only, then create the invitation.
  • Choose Share Invitation, Copy Invitation Link, or Show Invitation QR Code.
  • Turn on Approval Link to share, copy, or show a QR code that lets people request access.

Personal invitation links are intended for their selected recipient. Approval Links can be passed to anyone you are willing to consider for access.

Anyone with Link

Use the buttons under Public Link to share it, copy it, or show its QR code. Anyone who receives that link can join with the public permission currently selected by the owner.

Scan a QR code

From the Lists screen, tap Scan Invitation and point the camera at a CNTC invitation QR code. Allow camera access when asked. CNTC does not save or upload camera images.

If scanning is unavailable, open the invitation link directly instead. Ordinary QR scanners and the iPhone Camera app can also open CNTC links.

Manage invitations, requests, participants, and permissions

Approve requests, change access, cancel invitations, remove participants, and manage blocked people.

Open the list and tap Manage Sharing in the bottom toolbar. You can also touch and hold the list on the Lists screen and choose Manage Sharing. Owners can manage the following sections when they apply:

  • Pending Invitations: share or copy a personal link again, show its QR code, change its permission, or cancel it.
  • Access Requests: approve as Can Edit or View Only, deny the request, or block future requests from that person.
  • Participants: change a participant’s permission or remove their access.
  • Blocked People: unblock someone so a future request can be considered.

If you cannot add contacts

Check the list role shown in CNTC. View Only participants can view and import shared contacts but cannot add or change them. Ask the owner to open Manage Sharing, find you under Participants, and change your permission to Can Edit.

Participants joining through Anyone with Link share the public link’s permission. The owner changes it from the Permission control in Manage Sharing.

Viewing participants

If you joined someone else's list, open the list, tap More, and choose Participants. You can also touch and hold the list on the Lists screen and choose Participants. The owner appears first, followed by accepted participants. Your entry is marked You, alongside your access permission. Pull down to refresh after membership changes.

Removing access or stopping sharing

Removing someone prevents future access through iCloud after the change synchronizes. It cannot remove contact details that person already imported, copied, or saved elsewhere.

Stop Sharing ends the shared list for all participants but does not delete the owner’s local list. Deleting the list is a separate action.

Lists and contacts
Find lists and contacts

Search across CNTC, within one list, or from iOS system search.

Search across CNTC

Use the search field on the Lists screen to find matching lists and contacts together. A matching contact result shows the list it belongs to; selecting it opens that contact in its list.

Search within a list

Open a list and use its search field to narrow only that list’s contacts. CNTC can match names and available shared details such as phone numbers, email addresses, and organization information.

Search from iOS

CNTC adds visible lists and shared contacts to the iOS system search index. Selecting a CNTC result opens the corresponding list or contact in the app.

To hide CNTC content from system search, open iOS Settings, find CNTC’s search settings, and turn off Show Content in Search. The location and wording can vary by iOS version.

Import shared contacts into Apple Contacts

Review shared details and create or update local Apple Contacts entries.

To import several contacts:

  1. Open a list, tap the More button, and choose Select Contacts.
  2. Select the contacts you want, then tap Import.

You can also touch and hold a list on the Lists screen and choose Import Contacts to start selecting contacts.

Before importing, CNTC shows how many new Apple Contacts entries will be created. Selected contacts that already match Apple Contacts entries are skipped.

To import one contact, open it, tap the More button, and choose Import. You can also touch and hold the contact in its list and choose Import Contact.

CNTC compares the shared details with Apple Contacts entries it can access before writing anything:

  • If there is no match, create a new Apple Contact or choose an existing contact to update.
  • If CNTC finds one match, you can open it before deciding what to do.
  • If several contacts match, review them carefully to avoid creating a duplicate.

An imported contact becomes a separate local Apple Contacts copy. Later shared-list changes do not automatically update that copy. Import again when you want to review newer shared details.

Remove contacts, delete a list, or leave a list

Understand what is removed for you, for participants, or from Apple Contacts.

Remove contacts from a list

Open the list, tap the More button, choose Select Contacts, select one or more entries, then tap Remove. You can also swipe a contact or touch and hold it to remove that contact directly.

An owner can remove any contact from their list. A participant with Can Edit access can remove only contacts they added. A View Only participant cannot remove contacts.

Removing a shared contact does not delete an imported copy from Apple Contacts.

Delete a list you own

Open the list, tap the More button, and choose Delete List. You can also touch and hold the list on the Lists screen and choose Delete List. The list and its shared contacts are removed for every participant after the change synchronizes. Imported Apple Contacts copies remain.

Leave a list shared with you

Open the list, tap the More button, and choose Leave List. You can also touch and hold the list on the Lists screen and choose Leave List. The shared list is removed from CNTC on your device. Contacts you previously imported remain in Apple Contacts.

Removing access, deleting a list, or leaving cannot erase information that someone already copied, exported, or saved elsewhere.

Settings, privacy, and troubleshooting
Change your display name

Choose the name CNTC shows with invitations and participant activity.

  1. Open Settings in CNTC.
  2. Find the Display Name section.
  3. Enter the name you want people to see.
  4. Tap Save.

CNTC can show this name to people you share lists with, including on invitation pages, in sharing notifications, and when identifying who added a contact. It is separate from the names in Apple Contacts and does not rename your Apple Account.

To stop using a customized name, clear the field and save. CNTC then uses a generic label where a name is needed.

Turn on sharing notifications

Receive useful list-membership and permission updates and manage delivery in iOS Settings.

  1. Open Settings in CNTC.
  2. Tap Sharing Notifications.
  3. If the status is Not Set Up, allow notifications when iOS asks.

After the first choice, tapping Sharing Notifications opens the system notification settings for CNTC. There you can turn delivery on or off and choose alert styles. Deliver Quietly means iOS is delivering notifications without prominent alerts.

Sharing notifications can cover events such as access requests, approvals, invitation acceptance or cancellation, permission changes, participant removal, or the end of sharing. Delivery is best effort; Manage Sharing shows the authoritative current access state.

Notification payloads do not contain contact details or invitation links.

Understand synchronization status

Check iCloud availability and what to do when a list is not current.

CNTC shows synchronization status in Settings → Sync Status and may display a banner when attention is needed. The status screen shows Apple Contacts and iCloud availability along with the latest known check, send, and receive times.

If a list is not current:

  1. Confirm the device is online.
  2. Confirm you are signed in to the expected Apple Account and iCloud Drive is available.
  3. Open Settings → Sync Status and tap Refresh Status.
  4. Follow any Contacts-access or Apple Account guidance shown there.
  5. Leave CNTC open briefly so iCloud can finish processing changes.

Synchronization can be delayed while CNTC is offline, checking Apple Contacts, sending local changes, receiving shared changes, or joining a new list. Do not delete the app or shared list as a first troubleshooting step.

Send feedback or report a problem

Send feedback with an optional reply email, images, and diagnostics.

  1. Open Settings → Send Feedback.
  2. Choose Bug or Issue, Feature Request, or Other Feedback.
  3. Add a short subject and a useful description.
  4. Optionally add a contact email if you want CNTC support to reply.
  5. Optionally attach up to three screenshots or photos through the system image picker. Videos and other files are not supported.
  6. Review Include Diagnostics and turn it off if you prefer.
  7. Submit the report.

Selected images are resized and stripped of embedded metadata such as location before sending, but information visible in the image remains. Diagnostics are limited to app version/build, iOS version, device model, and app locale. CNTC never automatically attaches contacts, list names, internal iCloud identifiers, invitation URLs, or purchase identifiers.

Do not include private contact information, passwords, payment details, invitation links, or other sensitive information in the description or images. If feedback cannot be sent from the app, email support@cntc.app.

Understand privacy and data handling

Learn what stays on your devices and in iCloud, what limited data CNTC’s web services use, and how reports are handled.

No separate account

CNTC uses the Apple Account already signed in to iCloud on your compatible device. You do not create a CNTC username, password, or account. A random sharing identifier is kept in your private iCloud storage so invitations, participant names, and sharing activity can work across your devices without revealing your Apple Account to CNTC.

Lists and contacts

Shared contact entries and the fields selected for sharing are stored on your devices and synchronized through Apple iCloud. CNTC’s web services do not receive your address book or those shared contact details.

To operate invitation pages and identify participant activity, CNTC stores limited information such as a list title, an optional display name, link settings, an encrypted reference to the iCloud invitation, and random sharing identifiers. If you enable sharing notifications, it also stores an encrypted Apple notification token and internal subscription identifiers.

CNTC adds visible list names and selected shared contact details to the iOS system search index. That index stays on the device and can be controlled from iOS Settings.

Website data and reports

CNTC does not use advertising SDKs, cross-app tracking, or third-party analytics on invitation pages. Its web services retain only the limited technical information needed to operate invitations, security, and optional sharing notifications.

When sending feedback, you control the text and can omit a contact email, images, and limited app/device diagnostics. Selected images are resized and stripped of embedded metadata before CNTC emails the report to support. Support report threads are normally scheduled for permanent deletion 90 days after their latest message, subject to the exceptions explained in the Privacy Policy.
